(Late) Weekly Medley #38

Recently Updated39

1. The essentials for productivity and sanity … I’ve been relying on this trio, a nice magazine to escape to, the uber-amazing Bath & Body Works Flannel Mini Candle and the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Moisturizing Stick. I‘m confident to say that I can’t explain my deep love of magazines and a good lip balm is such an essential for my permanently chapped lips. And there’s something about lighting a candle that helps me to get stuff done and this one smells warm and spicy and somewhat masculine in a good way.

2. The Thanksgiving face… I set out about to put a normal amount of makeup on, doing my usual thing and somehow this happened but I was rather pleased. The lipstick is the gorgeous MAC Dubonnet, if you wanted to inquire and I love it to death.

3. A trio of products that I’ve been loving … I’ve taken back out the coral MAC Style Blush that’s yet another one of those gorgeous corals with that golden shimmer running throughout, I’ve still been obsessed with my recently discovered Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara and the L’Oreal Magic Lumi Highlighting Concealer Pen for instantly brightening up my far too-tired face.

4. The shameless self-promotion of the week… I wrote out and put up an updated post that reviewed the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet last week and it had to be my favourite but I might also enjoy that it serves as evidence that I’m trying to get into the habit of writing more frequent review posts.

5. Hello bath, how I’ve loved thee… I haven’t been really into that whole bath situation in years but I’ve recently gotten into them as of late and have been finding them essential and consequently a wee bit more frequent as of late. The relaxation element is good for my sanity, it ensures that I actually shave my legs on a frequent basis and it’s a way of getting some reading done in peace and tranquility. Those pictured are the noteworthy products.

6. Writing, writing, reading, reading, with some studying thrown in … It never ends and I’m exhausted. It’s that time of year again and obviously this is why I’m putting this post up so inexcusably late!

Things have gotten to that point for me when there’s so much to do and little energy to accomplish anything on that list and this is why this post is so very late — my apologies! Regardless, things have been a little more hectic around these parts and stress-filled so I’m afraid nothing noteworthy has been happening blogging wise but I’m alive and not particularly sleep deprived and/or over-caffeinated at the moment and with that considered, everything is pretty good. I will say I’m loving the whole fall thing as it’s been hitting; there’s something lovely about that cozy attitude and not casually dying of sweat throughout the day.

How was your week?

Three Things

I apologize for the sheer abundance of rambly posts where I complain about some of the school-related woes that I have to overcome but it’s all that seems to cross my mind these days, however I often astound myself with my ability to procrastinate from the pressure of accomplishment itself. Somehow this is how a good number of my blog posts come to be. Hmmmm.

Why don’t I ever talk about anything fashion related here? Well, it’s not out of a lack of interest and that’s for certain; I’m someone who attempts to look somewhat pulled together but comfort is key in my world so sometimes (err most of the time) it just does not happen and in all honesty I’m a mediocre photographer at best and therefore impaired at taking nice style shots and the like. I’m willing to make an exception for this infinity scarf that I picked up from American Eagle a few months back for around $35 CDN and have been obsessed with ever since. I love infinity scarves and this one combines my love for fair-isle, looking festive and cozy while still looking presentable and polished.

To be honest, it sort of astounds me that the NARS Golshan Satin Lip Pencil ($30 CDN) doesn’t get more love and mention from me here. I’ve been so close to including it in a few recent favourites posts yet I’ve found myself restraining from doing so because it’s not exactly something that I reach for day after day as it’s such a full-on shade. But, oh man, is the formula of the shade gorgeous – it glides over dry patches like a dream and leaves the perfect deep wine colour on the lips that lasts without requiring loads of maintenance. I’m going to be sad when spring truly comes and it will be no longer acceptable to wear the shade….

I gave the Marc Jacobs Beauty Starlet Palette ($71) a glowing review earlier in January and featured it in a few other posts but it’s something that I have mixed feelings about as an all-inclusive palette. The seven metallic shades are interesting offerings for a neutral palette and are fantastic quality shades but I don’t necessarily believe that it offers a variety of cohesive everyday looks on its own exactly. I had taken a break from using the luxurious palette for a bit but I dug it out today and was glad that I did. I did add my eyebrow shade, MAC Coquette, in the crease for some depth but still the champagne on the lid with the dark bronzy shade in the outer corner is a winning laid-back combination in my eyes.

I fear I must get back to digging through articles, researching for the essay that’s killing me (it’s a philosophy one) and making some headway actually writing my paper. What have you been loving in the last little bit? Any thoughts on the products I mentioned?

The Daily Face #1: I actually wear this to class and look like a sane person

Collage

Face: Kiehl’s Stress Rescuer moisturizer, Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (Ivory), MUFE 5 Concealer Palette (1), Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer/Highlighter (Ivory), Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Creme Bronzer in Warm Tan, Benefit Rockateur Boxed Powder, NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray

Eyes: NYX HD Eyeshadow Base, Dior Earth Reflection Quint, Maybelline Master Precise Black Pen-Liner, Maybelline The Falsies mascara, Lancome Le Crayon Kohl in Black/Noir, MAC Charcoal Brown eye shadow, Revlon Brow Fantasy in Brunette

Lips: MAC Patisserie lipstick

This is probably quite boring but this is the kind of post that I enjoy reading maybe the most — the makeup that I wear the most on an everyday basis (what I wear to Uni) and is a standard amount of makeup compared to others (you know the odd occasion when you don’t look like you’re wearing 10x the amount of makeup that everyone else is) and takes five minutes, max. It’s the perfect happy medium to make me feel put together and polished but does not scream overly made-up.

Being the foundation hoarder that I am, the foundation I wear on a daily basis varies depending on the state of my skin at the moment and general mood, nevertheless a favourite of mine for everyday (and is also up there for all time) is Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation. The almost invisible slight shimmer gives that nice glow while still providing a natural-looking medium coverage. Luckily for me, Ivory (the lightest shade) is perfect for my moderately fair skin for most of the year with its yellowy undertones.

I ran out of Urban Decay Primer Potion (sigh… :() and I have weirdly oily eyelids so I picked up Nyx HD Eyeshadow Base, which works better than Maybelline Colour Tattoos and and ever so slightly better than MAC Paint Pots but not as well as UDPP… but I can’t complain.

I’ve always had rather large and deep-set eyes and I’ve learned that outer-v definition can really make a difference for me and liner is essential. I put the Lancome on to tightline and applied a thin line on the upper lashes with the Maybelline. It was a complete splurge but I’m really enjoying my first Dior quint; I did quite a standard eye today with the golden champagne on the lid, the taupe in the crease and the deepest shade along the lashline and outer-v and I have to say that I’m a fan of the look.

I’ve struggled using the MUFE Concealer Palette for ages because the dark-correcting shade is just so orange and although it conceals dark circles, it can be very obvious but I’ve been putting the Rimmel on top and I’m impressed. The lip choice was obvious; the standard wearable pinky-brown nude MAC Patisserie.

Benefit Rockateur is holding its place in my cheek product rotation and the Sonia Kashuk Creme Bronzer has been a pleasant surprise, finding it’s way into my daily makeup. Big deal right here. Um and my No-Buy might have maybe sort of turned into a Low-Buy after spotting the NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray (First impression – lovely) and the limited-edition velvet matte top coat from L’Oreal……

Thoughts?

I may or may not have cut Benefit Rockateur out of the frame :)
